Schadenfreude takes the sting out of gay rights setback

Rightwing bigots dealt yet another demoralizing blow to gay rights supporters in Tuesday’s election. A narrow majority overturned same-sex marriage rights in Maine. Homophobic Republicans won decisive victories in Virginia and New Jersey.
But the news wasn’t all bad. A handful of openly gay candidates won popular support. Houston just might elect its first openly gay mayor. An anti-discrimination ordinance passed in Michigan. A pro-gay “everything but marriage” bill passed in Washington state. And Michael Bloomberg won a third term as mayor of NYC in part because he ran to the left of Barack Obama on gay rights issues.
On an even brighter note, one sanctimonious gay marriage foe suffered a humiliating loss this week.
Gay-hating “opposite marriage” advocate Carrie Prejean sued the Miss California USA Pageant for $1 million, claiming religious discrimination. The pageant counter-sued for breach of contract. You see, the Miss USA people bought Carrie Prejean a brand new pair of fake tits, and since she wasn’t using those tits to promote girl power, world peace, and Donald Trump’s ego, they wanted their money back.
In the end, Prejean netted a big fat goose egg in a settlement that only recouped her legal expenses. That alone would be reason enough to wrap yourself in a schadenfreude snuggie, but it gets even better.
Apparently, Prejean walked away from negotiations because an attorney for the Miss California Pageant obtained an XXX-rated videotape that features Carrie Prejean and her synthetic Jesus jugs engaging in non-procreative sex acts.
Go ahead. Point and laugh. It’ll make you feel better.
